Dot NAME Domain Names

Launched in 2001, the .NAME universal domain extension is the sole TLD planned for personal sites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other designations people are known by. At first, solely third-level registrations were permitted, so if you desired to register john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also allowed. Already taken 3rd-level domains remained online.
